AMAZON RIVER??????????
That's a huge mistake...

"Even for giant rivers like Amazon"
WHAT ?!
AMAZON ??

The Amazon river is thousands of miles up north. Doesn't anybody here knows anything about geografy ?

Those waterfalls are on the ARGENTINA border. South bottom of America.
The IGUAÇÚ (sounds lika e-gua-su) river ends up in the waterfall. That's why it called IGUAÇÚ Waterfalls.

I've recently stayed on the Argentine border of the falls, and I have to say that Argentina has a better view of the falls, although Brazil has the much prettier hotel :). The falls are rated 7th in the list of the top 10 natural wonders of the world, although I'd have to say that they are top 5 in scope and beauty.

The correct spelling in the Guarani language is Yguasu.

I was just there at the end of January and it is absolutely beautiful. I saw it referred to as Foz do Igaucu on the Brazil side and Iguazu Falls and Cataratas del Iguazú on the Argentina side. I took a few pictures too: http://picasaweb.google.com/nathanmoe

EDIT: needed to fix link

The word Iguazu comes from the Guarani.
Guarani is a southamerican indigenous language (still spoken in Paraguay).

Iguazu means "Big Water"
Thats how the Guaranies named things, they used words to describe things.

Is 3 times bigger than the Niagara Fall.

Is wonderful!!! Its a MUST SEE, Definally.

Thank you for posting these pictures!

I live 40 miles from there!!

I'm from Argentina, and yes, the best view of the waterfalls are from the argentinian side..
we call them "Cataratas del Iguazu", and in brazil, they call them "Foz de Iguaçu"..

It's the most relaxing place on earth..

Also there, you can find one of the biggest black markets in the world!! haha, yes! cheap stuff all over..

if you come visit, email me, I'll be glad to give you some tips..

Oscar, you are wrong.
First of all, in Brazil they dont call it Foz do Iguacu (Thats the name of the city).
The name is Iguaçu and "cataratas"....

You are Wrong man.

Second: By far, the best place to watch the falls are from the Brazil side.
(Im not from Brazil, but Im from southamerica and I like to promote the tourism there)

That is really an outstanding place. I've never seen such a long warterfall. Great place, worth while visiting. Thanks the photographer for these beautiful shots and especially for this video. Nice music, by the way:)

I visited these falls late last year and they are the most spectacular things I've ever seen. It's amazing how energised you feel around them. I stayed in Foz do Iguacu and saw them from both sides. Both sides were fantastic in different ways. It's amazing that this site is not better known in the world.

Check out the 1987 movie "The Mission", starring Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro. The falls and the Guarani people are central to the story and scenery. Beautiful music as well.
